Cloth Diapers
Today marks the start of cloth diapering at the Conger household! Abby did really well with her first diaper but I found that it is super bulky...Her onsie still snapped but it was a little harder than disposable diapers. Although bulky the cloth diapers are so cute when Abby isn't wearing any clothes. She's still wearing a disposable at night in high hopes that she will start sleeping through the night :) Any advice or websites that anyone has on washing and keeping up with the diapers would be much appreciated. I know I've been sent stuff before but it didn't make as much sense until I had them. She is wearing fuzzibunz one size pocket diaper.

She loves them! :)

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cute!!! http://ericandmistynewsome.blogspot.com/2009/03/cloth-diapering-101-very-picture-heavy.html
That is the blog post that really helped me figure it out. If they don't smell clean when you take them out of the washer, run them with an extra rinse cycle. They look so huge on Abby - sigh, I remember when they looked that way on Rebecca. If you need anything, let me know!
She's smiling!!!! OMGOSH, I HAVE TO SEE MY ABBY!
Oh she's so cute!
I really like FuzziBunz. I also use DryBees for night time (the all fleece type are the best) and thirsties covers w/ fitteds (not my fav) or prefolds on regular days.
There are so many washing theories, it's a little dizzying. I've been cloth diapering for over 3 years now and have just decided to take a pretty basic approach to it. I rinse in a cold cycle. Then, do the longest hot wash possible with no-frills powdered Tide - but a greatly reduced amount. Then, I run another short cold cycle to get a very thorough rinse. That's it. I dry on medium, or on the line in the spring/summer to bleach.
Once you get used to it, it doesn't seem like the monumental task it does now.
Another perk to CDing at night is that, in my experience, the newborn blowouts are contained - rather than full on explosions that I remember with disposables. This was a huge plus for me since the babies sleep in my bed...:-)
Another great product is called Bac-out. If you use it in the first rinse cycle it does a lot to prevent any sort of residue or build up.
Lastly, at some point all the diapers end up needing some sort of refreshing. Some people boil them and all this nonsense...I don't have time for that. But here's a great method to refresh them: http://runninganniemm.blogspot.com/2009/01/works-for-me-diaper-revamp.html
ALSO - I love your new blog design! It looks great!
Cass, After talking to alot of people who use cloth and reading too many bolgs I came up the following routine:
1. wash diapers and covers separately. Since I use prefolds with covers I am able to keep the diapers and covers separate from the time of the diaper change. I didn't do this at first, but I have found this helps keep the diaper covers looking better, and since that is what shows I feel better when a non-cloth user sees a clean looking diaper cover.
2. I was every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This is something a friend told me that has really helped organize the cleaning process.
3. Pre-wash the cloth diapers with about a quarter cup of vinegar. Chris doesn't know I do this because he hates the smell of vinegar, but it really helps cut the messy diaper smell and you really can't smell vinegar when it is all done.
4. Wash the cloth diapers on the longest wash cycle with a scoop of Charlie's detergent.
5. Dry the cloth diapers while the covers go in the pre-wash cycle with a scoop of oxiclean (I use the generic brand and it works just the same).
6. Wash the covers on the longest wash cycle with a scoop of Charlie's detergent.
7.Hang the covers to dry.
Like Andrea said, the whole process can sound overwhelming when it is written down, but it becomes second nature after you have done it a few times. And about the bulky bottom, it just comes with wearing cloth. A friend who has two girls in cloth said she just dresses her girls in alot of skirts and dresses.
Keep up the good work!
Love and prayers,
